A walkthrough checklist for the final turnover handoff

A practical guide for property owners

The final walkthrough is a chance to compare the unit with the agreed work. A useful checklist keeps attention on the actual tasks, records what remains, and gives the owner a clear next step.

Bring the agreed scope

Review the cleaning areas, repairs, paint work, and other approved tasks before the walkthrough. Note any changes made during the job. A shared list is more useful than relying on memory or comparing the unit with work that was never included.

Review the space room by room

Check the agreed surfaces, floors, kitchen and bathroom areas, cabinets, and appliances where they are included. Look for remaining belongings, visible damage, or unfinished tasks. Record concerns clearly so the responsible person can review them.

Keep specialist checks separate

A cleaning or finish-work review does not replace a required inspection or an assessment by a qualified specialist. Identify those separate steps in the property plan and confirm who is arranging them before the handoff.

Record the next steps

List outstanding items, the person responsible, and any agreed follow-up. Confirm the return of keys or access arrangements through the appropriate contact. Clear completion notes help the owner understand the unit’s status without assuming every issue has been resolved.
